“Augmented Reality Systems for Gaming, Training, and Education”
Abstract: Augmented Reality systems merge the real-world view of a person with virtual objects and characters to enhance their perspective. Such systems can be used to develop next generation gaming systems, training systems and home shopping systems. With the invent of the Kinect®, Google-goggles® and powerful mobile processors, such systems are becoming more practical to use. Computer vision, computer graphics, speech recognition and artificial intelligence technologies are all integrated together to build such systems. In this talk, I will introduce some of the key technologies that are used to build such systems and discuss some of the challenges that we face in building such systems. I will illustrate how the technology is used today in real-life systems, including Military Training, Maintenance and Repair. Augmented reality games and home shopping are also beginning to gain momentum. I will review developments in these areas and the future of AR in general.
