Sam Platt (Cedar Grove, NJ/Mount Saint Dominic Academy), a member of The College of New Jersey softball team, was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District 2 First Team. She will now move onto the national ballot for voting for Academic All-American honors.

Criteria for nomination and selection is based on student-athletes who carry a cumulative grade point average of 3.3 or higher, and have also made significant contributions to their teams on the field and in the community. District 2 includes Division III softball players from Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Kentucky, Maryland, New Jersey, Rhode Island, and West Virginia.

Platt is enjoying an exceptional season on the mound for the Lions. Recently named to the New Jersey Athletic Conference First Team, she is 16-3 overall with a 1.89 earned run average. Platt has thrown 10 complete games and struck out 66 batters. In her last start, she led TCNJ to a 7-1 victory in the opening round of the 2016 NJAC Championship Tournament.

Off the field, Platt is a biology major and has accrued a grade point average of 4.0.

The Lions are 27-13 overall this season and are scheduled to face Rutgers-Camden University at 3 p.m. today (Friday) in the second round of the conference tournament.
