Title: Brain “Waves”

Abstract: Spiral- and target-like patterns or ‘waves’ have been observed in the brains of various animals. It would be interesting to understand the mechanisms behind the creation of such waves in the brain. Using a two-dimensional network of integrate-and-fire model neurons with a close-neighbor coupling (nearest, or next-nearest) architecture, we also discovered wave-like patterns. This talk will begin with an introduction of a biological neuron and how it is modeled by an integrate-and-fire neuron, then discuss the fundamentals of wave theory, and close with examples of waves discovered from our computational model.
